Rahul is interested in synthesizing carbon-based nanostructures and inorganic nanoparticles/nanostructures. He has produced and worked with carbon nanotube (CNT), reduced graphene oxide (rGO), and graphene quantum dot (GQD). He has synthesized transparent conducting oxide (TCO) thin-film like fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO), optically responsive nanoparticle (Zinc Oxide, Tungsten Oxide), sulfide nanostructure (CdS, SnS), and doped nanoparticle (Mn-doped ZnO, FTO). He is proficient in different synthesis methods; Spray pyrolysis, Chemical vapor deposition (CVD), SILAR, Electrospinning, Ball Milling, Chemical bath deposition, etc. Rahul aims to produce expeditious sensors by combining the exceptional electrical property of carbon-based nanostructures with the enhanced sensing property of the inorganic nanoparticle. After successfully synthesizing an ultra-fast responsive tungsten oxide decorated CNT UV sensor and ZnO UV photodetector, he focuses on developing swifter and enhanced photodetector devices. With the experience of working on the solar cell, he also aims to develop flexible and cheap solar cells.

I am a senior research fellow in the department of Physics of IIEST Shibpur. As a researcher in basic science, I have profound interest in many areas including nanomaterials research, thin film, polymer science, photo-voltaic application, thermoelectric and piezo-electric device application, flexible VOC and gas sensor etc. Currently my work focuses on the synthesis of different carbon nanostructures(MWCNT, SWCNT, Graphene etc.) and conducting polymers (Polyaniline, Polypyrrole)approaching chemical vapour deposition (CVD), Electrospinning, sol-gel, in-situ, SILAR and other different route. The composite of the materials or their layer-by-layer (LBL) thin film assembly structuresareproduced on any substrate or kept in free-standing mode for showing their sensing performance under different relative humidity (RH) and Gas or VOC ( NH3, Ethanol, IPA, Acetone) ambient. My research is also intended towards the fabrication of self-sustaining sensing and thermoelectric device.
